Hospital

So, my potential over night stay in hospital after some day procedure turned into 3 nights in hospital and turned into a fairly major bit of surgery. The very experienced doctor who did the operation described my case as 'the most serious case he'd seen in years'. Go me. Anyway he is very happy with the work he has done and most importantly (from my prospective anyway) I don't have to have a second operation.
I am looking forward to the next two or three months to seeing how much difference having all the 'gunk' removed makes to my general levels of tiredness and I hope I notice a difference. Next on the list after that is a holiday, so we can both just chill out and relax. It has been a very stressful few months waiting to get this sorted out. I am glad to be home.

Towel Day

Today is Towel Day! Which was invented as a tribute Douglas Adams.  For that day, you carry a towel around, in a reference to the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.  Here is a quote:

A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.
More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.
Hence a phrase that has passed into hitchhiking slang, as in "Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is." (Sass: know, be aware of, meet, have sex with; hoopy: really together guy; frood: really amazingly together guy.)

And here is a picture of my towel (purchased at the Salisbury branch of Marks and Spencer) at work:
Not sure why the photo has a greenish blob in the middle....

12 on the 12th of April

Today I was reading the Geocaching Australia forum today, because as you know, I am a complete nerd. I found a post called 12 of 12. I had a bit of a read and this is what it's all about. You take 12 photos of your day each month on the 12th. By total random chance, today IS the 12th, so I decided to participate. Below are the photos of my day today.

Me discovering the 12 on the 12th challenge

My cool socks today, even if they are really tight at the top and tend to cut off blood circulation, but only a bit!!

Me waiting for lunch time, tick tock, tick tock

A bit tree out the front of the College of Surgeons near my work

My lunch spot, Madam Brussells Lane

My lunch

Me walking down the street in the afternoon sun

My foot with two acupuncture pins in it (Thanks to Jeremy for talking the photo, I personally can't look!!)

Can you see what is wrong with this picture.  I've always loved this building front

This is a bit of art on the side of a house on my walk home from work, I think it's really pretty

Two of my dogs running towards me in my usual insane greeting on returning home this evening

Not many of these chocolates to go now, but boy they are tasty!!

Boys, you just cant take them any where

And apparently this stuff doesn't wash off. Neil has tried everything. He eventually rang me to read the instructions. Oh well, I hope he has nothing on at work that's important.
